15 Responses to 8 Things to Think About Before You Start House Hunting

  1. Okay, so pretty much everything you said in this list confirms what I’ve heard or what Mark and I are planning for – – so yay for that! (We’re also Dave Ramsey fanatics, so that may be part of it!) Now, you may not be a real estate professional, but by golly, you probably could be. Seriously, you’re a smart cookie, Meredith, and it really does help to hear your tips and wisdom as we take baby steps toward becoming first time homeowners. Thanks for sharing this awesome list. Pinned it!

    • Yay Dave Ramsey! And a lot of this is just common sense stuff that you don’t really realize until you go through it…I’m glad that it will be helpful for you as you start the process! Wishing you a relatively quick and painless house hunt once it officially begins :-)

  2. Thanks for these tips. I hadn’t considered a 15 year mortgage (oddly, maybe just because when we signed our first mortgage it wasn’t feasible), but I will look into that this time! Great post.

  3. So many useful tips, thank you! I’ve never though of paying the mortgage every two weeks instead of month! This post goes straight to bookmarks! ;)

  4. Cool tip about knowing how much should one save per month in order to pay for the mortgage for a house. Aside from finances, another aspect of the house buying business is what kind of house should one buy. Knowing that there are a lot of houses to choose from, my tip is to research on different types of houses then showing them to a professional in order to not only know the right kind of house to sell but be able to find it immediately as well.

stay-at-home mom to three beautiful children, wife to an incredible husband, and daughter of a loving God. I freely admit that I am not always the most creative or original person when it comes to crafting, decorating, organizing, cooking, etc...but I love being inspired by great ideas and putting my own spin on them! Look around, stay a while, and I hope through my *unoriginality* I can provide some inspiration to you, too!
