I’m always on the lookout for new (and easy!) kid craft ideas to occupy my almost-3-year-old daughter. Especially now that I have a 4 month old to tend to, any kind of activity that I can easily set up for her to do herself is a win for both of us. Today, I’m sharing a few neat kid craft “hacks” that you can pull together using Glad Press’n Seal!
You’ve probably heard of Glad Press’n Seal before – I found it with the rest of the foils/wraps at Walmart. It’s slightly sticky on one side but peels off cleanly, so it’s a great substitute for anything you’d typically use cling wrap for. But what you may not know is that it has lots of other uses as well! (For example, I was surprised to find out that many people rave about it as transfer tape for their vinyl designs!)
Hack #1: Tissue paper “stained glass” projects.
I love this project! It was simple to set up – I used markers to draw a rainbow on the non-sticky side of a piece of Press’n Seal. You could draw whatever you want – a random “stained glass” type pattern, something seasonal like autumn leaves or a snow man, letters/numbers, etc! And if you’re worried about your free handing a more complicated design, just print a free coloring page and put it underneath the Press’n Seal so you can trace it.
Using painter’s tape, I taped the Press’n Seal to our deck door, sticky side out. You could also just stick it to a wall – but I like how it gives more of a stained glass effect with the light shining through.
Then I cut out small pieces of colored tissue paper.
I put the tissue paper pieces in a plastic cup (along with a cup of cotton balls for clouds) and let her have at it!
This is wonderful for color matching, fine motor skills, and just plain fun. If you want to keep your “stained glass” after you’re done, just put another layer of Press’n Seal over top, sticky side down.
Hack #2: Surface protection
We don’t have a newspaper subscription…so when it comes time for a messy project, I have to scour the house for something to put down on the table to protect it from the mess. But I’ve discovered that Press’n Seal works terrifically well for that! So when Addy want to “paint with her fingers” I threw down a few pieces of Press’n Seal, and away she went. When she was done, it came up cleanly and the mess was contained! NOTE: This worked fine on our old kitchen table, but after trying it on our new table I found the Press n’ Seal actually left a sticky residue on our table! It came up with a bit of scrubbing, but it’s probably a good idea to test this on a small corner of your surface before you cover a large area with it.
Hack #3: Kid bibs
I’ve been meaning to buy/make Addy an art smock for a while now…but just haven’t gotten around to it yet. So usually when she does a messy craft, I’ll just take her shirt off…that keeps her from getting paint on her clothes, but we still have to wash the paint off of her chest when she’s done. This time, I just stuck a piece of Press’n Seal onto her shirt! I was really surprised by how well it stuck. Then when she was done painting, into the trash it went – no extra mess to clean up!
Hm…I think I’m going to need to go buy another box of Press’n Seal to keep in my pantry, because this roll is staying with my crafting stash!

This is such a creative use of Glad Press’n Seal! The tissue paper “stained glass” project sounds like a blast for kids. I love how easy it is to set up, and the tracing idea is great for those less confident with drawing. Can’t wait to try it!

Hey, I totally get how helpful simple crafts can be, especially with a toddler and a newborn—anything that keeps them busy and happy is a win!
